2010 Leadership
Chair - Mr. Jim Phillips, CPP™
Jim currently serves as the Director
of Public Safety and Chief
of Police for
Methodist University in
Fayetteville, NC. He is retired from the
Carrboro Police
Department and has over 25 years of experience as a
law enforcement officer,
investigator, trainer, and manager.
Jim's areas of professional interest and experience include Law
Enforcement Agency Leadership,
Emergency Preparedness,
Critical Incident Management, the Investigation of Crimes Against
Persons, Crime Prevention,
and Physical Security.
Jim earned a
Bachelor of Science degree from the
University of Florida in 1982 and a
Master of Business
Administration degree from the
North Carolina State
University in 1998 and earned his CPP™
certification from
ASIS International in 2007.
Vice Chair - Mr. Gene Perry, CPP™
Gene is an
active duty soldier
assigned to Fort
Bragg, North Carolina with the
United States Army Special
Operations Command. He has over eighteen
years in the Army and has served 16 of those years as a Military
Policeman.
Gene has extensive experience in Physical Security and
Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP). He is a graduate of numerous
security-related military courses including the Conventional
Physical Security Course,
Anti-Terrorism Program
Manager’s Course, and the
Corps of Engineers’
Security Engineering
Course.
Gene earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from
Troy University,
graduating with honors.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Business and
Organization Security
Management with
Webster University.
Gene earned his CPP™ certification from
ASIS International
in June 2009.
Secretary - Mr. Jeffrey Gruber, CHS-III
Jeff is an active duty soldier
working at the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special
Warfare Center and School.
He currently has over twenty two years in the Army with
seventeen of those years in the Special Operations community.
He will retire later this year and then begin his
follow-on career in the realm of security operations.
Jeff’s focus for much of the last
ten years has been in Physical Security and Anti-Terrorism/Force
Protection (AT/FP).
He was an instructor in the Operations and Intelligence Course
teaching a forty hour block of instruction on Target Analysis.
More recently he served on a Regional Survey Team
performing site surveys of U.S. Diplomatic facilities overseas.
Of special note was his position as structures chief for
the survey of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow Russia and also his
participation in two Olympic Surveys (Summer Olympics in Greece
2004 and Winter Olympics in Italy 2005/2006).
Jeff earned his Bachelor’s of
Science Degree from Campbell University, graduating with honors,
and is currently pursuing his Graduate Degree with Webster
University. He is
pursuing his Masters Program in Business and Organizational
Security Management which he desires to tie in with his military
training and experience.
Jeff is also actively pursuing his Security
Certifications with ASIS and is preparing for his CPP™
and PSP™ Exams.
He is also Certified in Homeland Security - Level III.
Treasurer - Mr. Dan Brand, CPP™
Historian - Albert A. Kittredge, CPP™
Al is currently the Chairperson & Instructor of the Security Management
Curriculum at Webster University, Pope AFB, NC. He has extensive experience
(20 plus years) in security and law enforcement and has served the public in
the following positions: military and civilian security director, police
administrator, instructor and police officer. During his 34 years of
military duty (28 active & 6 reserve), Al served in numerous military
special operations positions, as both an officer and enlisted person,
including three combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam.
Al received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the
University of Tampa, Florida and a Master of Arts majoring in Administration
of Justice from Wichita State. He has also attended numerous security and
law enforcement and management related courses given by ASIS, FBI, IACP,
civilian agencies and the military.
Al has been a member of ASIS International since 1981. He has held a variety of
leadership positions within ASIS to include Program Chairperson, Quad Cities
Chapter, 1982-84; Secretary, Fayetteville Chapter, 1989; Chairperson,
Fayetteville Chapter, 1990, 1991,1995, 2000; Vice-Chairperson, Fayetteville
Chapter, 1997; CPP Representative, Fayetteville Chapter, 2001; Public
Relations Chairperson, Fayetteville Chapter, 2001 & 2002.
Al earned his certification as a Certified Protection
Professional (CPP™) in 1983 and has numerous military commendations.
Al is also a member of the Trout Unlimited and Quality Deer Management
Association. His interests involve hunting, fishing, hiking,
gardening and woodworking. He is married to Anita Kittredge.
Webmaster - Mr. Pete Hernandez
Pete is a graduate student at Methodist University currently pursuing
his MBA in Organizational Management and Leadership. He is past Chapter
Chair (2008) and Webmaster (2008 and 2009). He will continue to serve as
Webmaster in 2010. His interests include physical security, asset
management, and loss prevention.
