About Us
The
Fayetteville chapter is a spin off from the
Raleigh
NC chapter. Prior to 1983 anyone
from the Fayetteville area who wanted to
attend a local American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) meeting
had to make the drive to the
Research
Triangle Park
in order to participate. The “spin off” chapter placed all current and
future members who lived south of Sanford
NC and east of
Troy
NC in the Greater Fayetteville
Chapter.
Since then, there
has been another spin off which grouped those from the
Wilmington
and Jacksonville
NC areas into the Azalea Chapter.
Due to
the lack of major industry in the Fayetteville
area and the transient nature of the
Fort
Bragg community, Chapter
159 is also very much a transient chapter. With the exception a few good
jobs with government there are not very many manager level security or
risk management opportunities in the local area. The majority of Chapter
159’s members have a Fort
Bragg or Pope Air Force
Base connection. Many of them are also graduate students enrolled in the
Webster University Business and Organizational Security Management
program. The majority joined ASIS for the same reason – the networking
opportunity.
Many
current and former members of the local chapter have obtained very good
security management and law enforcement related jobs through their
association with ASIS. Employment opportunities are often announced at
local meetings long before they are advertised in the public domain. In
addition to networking, the association has a very effective Executive
Referral Service, which is run at the national level. Several chapter
officers have used their volunteer leadership positions as resume
builders. Members can also take advantage of the professional
educational opportunities offered by ASIS International throughout the
year.
